John was called home to be with the Lord on May 8, 2022, about a week following his 87th birthday. He died of natural causes at Roundup Memorial Nursing home where he had resided since July of 2021.

He was born in Powell, Wyoming on April 30, 1935 to Burton and Frances M. Carlson, the third of five boys. He had a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and taught for fifteen years.
