Growth, Education and the Future

September 25, 2019

Since 1916 the Roundup Sportsmen’s Association, originally named the Roundup Rifle Club has been providing Roundup and the surrounding area with a safe and quality facility for people to practice and participate in shooting sports. At over 150 members in 2019 the RSA continues to grow on a yearly basis. This growth hasn’t come without its challenges, but thanks to numerous dedicated volunteer members over the years the challenges have been met head on and the RSA shows even greater promise.

Over the years the Roundup Sportsmen’s Association has been able to offer local and state United States Practical Shooting Association sanctioned events, Steel Challenge Shooting Association Matches, Two Gun events, Cowboy Fast Draw, Archery, Community Sight-In Days, Trap Shooting and Ladies Night at the range.

In more recent years the RSA has also partnered with several educational programs such as Montana Hunter’s Education, Boy Scouts, and 4-H Shooting Sports.

There is a bright future ahead for the Roundup Sportsmen’s Association.

Grants from Signal Peak Community Foundation allowed them to implement sidewalks, electrical service and a water well. Two Vault Latrines were installed thanks to matching funds from the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks who also provided funds to replace some of the archery targets. Signal Peak Community Foundation then awarded a large grand for $33,500.00 for half of the cost of a Classroom/Clubhouse which was then matched by the NRA Foundation.

For the past four years members of the Roundup Sportsmen’s Association have hosted the Musselshell Valley Friends of NRA Banquet. Through money raised at these banquets and other Friends of NRA banquets throughout the state the RSA has received grants totaling over 51,000.00.

This year’s banquet has moved and will be held at the Roundup Community Center on Wednesday, October 2nd. Tickets are by advance sale only. The doors will open at 6:00 with different games and raffles, a no-host bar will be provided by the Grand Bar. At 7:30 a wonderful Prime Rib Dinner with all the trimmings will be provided by Cowboy’s Restaurant out of Huntley. Silent Auction Items and Live Auction Items will follow. The evening will commence with Raffle Drawings and a Door Prize Drawing of an exclusive firearm.

The NRA Foundation uses funds raised through Friends of NRA to educate people in the safe and responsible use of firearms. This is absolutely imperative to protect the Second Amendment for future generations since it is guarded first and foremost by those same responsible, educated people.
