Flatwillow Homemakers started their new year at Raye Anne Lund’s home on September 10, 2019. Raye Anne hosted with Donna Lund as co-hostess. Birthdays celebrated since our last meeting were Raye Anne Lund, Jean Cook, Luann Knutson, Donna Lund, and Melody Whitcher. Happy Birthday to all.

Sandi called the meeting to order and led the Pledge to the flag. Donna read the thought for the day called “The World We Make”. Roll call was answered with “what you did this summer”. Bonnie showed the quilt top that the Homemaker group has been working on. It will now go to Linda for the next step. Donna will write up a history of the Homemaker group to be attached to the quilt. We filled out the program books for the coming year. Secret sisters were revealed, and new secret sisters were drawn for the coming year. Florence won the blind pig. Ginger will host the October meeting on October 8. There will be opportunity table and secret sister gifts for fall or Halloween or whatever you chose to give. Everyone bid on the opportunity table and paid their dues.

It was great to see everyone and get caught up on what we have all been doing. I enjoy our summer break, but I am always so glad to start up our group again in the fall. Members present were Jean Cook, Sandi Gonzalez, Luann Knutson, Donna Lund, Raye Anne Lund, Bonnie Moore, Lillian Moore, Ginger Moore, and Florence Wacker.

There will be an Evening quilting class offered this fall. It will be on Thursday evenings from 6-8 pm in the Winnett School’s history classroom. It will run from October 10 – November 21. Instructors will be Linda Gershmel, and Melody Whitcher. The focus will be on beginning quilting techniques that creates a Star Sample table runner, small quilt, and wall hanging. All sewing levels are welcome. The class fee will be $50. Sewing machines and some tools available. Students will need fabric and other supplies. Unfortunately, this year, Grass Range/Winnett will not have a High School football team. Jr. High will still have a season. The Jr, High team has been doing fantastic. They are having a great season so far. Volleyball has also started, and our Lady Rangers are doing great. If you get a chance, come out and support our teams.

Story hour started on September 4. Any 4 and 5 year olds not enrolled in kindergarten are welcome. They meet in the library every Wednesday from 2:30-3:30. If you have any questions, please call Lori at the library, 429-2451, or Shana at 429-5855. Love to see our younger kids coming to story hour.

Congratulations to Gage and Brandi Iverson. They were married on August 10 at the Iverson Ranch. It was a beautiful wedding and reception. Brandi is the new 5/6th grade teacher for the Winnett School. We are so glad to have her in our community and as part of our school staff.

Central Montana Health District from Lewistown will be in Winnett on October 10 for a flu clinic. They will be at the senior citizen center from 10:00-noon, and at the Winnett School from 1:00-3:00.

The Petroleum County Community Center is hosting a Pitchfork Fondue Harvest dinner at the Community Center site in Winnett on Sunday September 22 at 5:30. The Winnett Bar will have beer and whiskey at a cash bar on site. Hopefully everyone that wants to go bought a ticket. See you there.

The Winnett Volunteer Fire Department had a fairly quite summer, although fire season isn’t quite over yet. While they did go on several fires, mostly lightening strikes, this area did not have the devastating fires like we had a couple of years ago. Thank you for these volunteers who give of their time to fight fires, be on scene when needed at accidents. These guys and ladies are very important to our community and we appreciate them. The same goes for our ambulance crew. Without these community members being willing to be a part of the ambulance crew, fire department or any other committee needed, we would not have a fire crew or ambulance crew available when they are needed. Be sure and thank any and all of them for their dedication.

Hard to believe September is half over. Shipping season is here and as we see more cattle trucks, stock trailers, and traffic on our roads, please drive carefully. See you next time.
