FLATWILLOW and WINNETT NEWS

Flatwillow Homemakers met on February 13 at Sandy’s home in Huntley. She prepared a corn bread chili casserole and everyone else brought in salads, and desserts. There were six members present. Raye Anne, Ginger, Luann, Kim, and Babs all carpooled from Winnett to Huntley. It was a fun ladies day out. Sandy read the thought for the day called “A Tribute to Lois Johnke” by Joe Whisonant. It was beautifully written and a wonderful tribute to one of the original founding members of the Flatwillow Homemakers Club. We answered roll call with “what are our plans for Valentine’s Day.”

We still plan to have a red, white, and blue themed gift exchange for everyone in May. It will be an enjoyable way to enjoy our last meeting of the year with everyone. Sandy’s cousin said he would be happy to build a frame for our Apron quilt made by Flatwillow Homemakers. We hope we can display it in the kitchen of the PCCC. There is a wonderful spot out of the way and anyone who uses the kitchen will be able to see this beautiful quilt. There were also idea of where we would like to hang our other quilts. This is still a work in progress on finding a nice place to display these quilts for everyone to enjoy.

Flatwillow Homemakers has it covered on making table favors for the Senior citizens. They will be done in time to have on the tables for the St. Patty’s Day meal. Luann brought a book she found in Grandma Mert’s things on 1938 household hints. How fun to see what they used and what was done for cleaing. Babs won the Blind Pig. There were no birthdays to celebrate in March. Secret Sister gifts were handed out. They were all Easter or St. Patty’s Day themed. Homemakers will meet next month at Melody’s home. It will be on Wednesday, the 13th instead of Tuesday. She works on Tuesdays so Wednesday will work better for her. We will continue to bring our ideas, thoughts, and suggestions on where and what we would like to do at our May meeting. We still have a couple of months to decide on our end of year field trip.

We hate to say goodbye to one of our longtime and wonderful friends in our community. Gary Flint of Winnett, formerly of Jordan, passed away this week. He will be missed by all of us. He had the nicest smile and the best sense of humor and was a friend to everyone. Our thoughts and sympathy goes out to Marge and his family and friends.

We also send our sympathy to Bonnie Dill. Her husband Roger Edwards also passed away this week. We are thinking of all the families and friends of Gary and Roger.

Crafting with Neighbors is on the 3rd Wednesday of every month in the Rebecca Room

at the PCCC from 9:30-3:00. Bring any craft you want to work on, bring your own lunch and have a fun social time as everyone works on projects and visits. Cost is $5 to help with the rent of the room.

Congratulations to our Winnett/Grass Range Rams boys basketball team. They defeated Belt in a challenge game this past Monday night to advance to state. Boys Class C state will be in Great Falls beginning on Wednesday, March 6. Our boys play Manhattan Christian on Wednesday at 4:30. We want to wish them good luck. The game will be shown at the PCCC in the Rebecca Room on the big screen TV. It will also be on at the Winnett Bar. Anyone is welcome to come in and watch the game.

We also want to congratulate our Lady Rams. They placed 5th place overall at the divisional tournaments last week. They have played well all season, and we have a talented group of ladies that will be returning next year.

The Elementary/Jr High Basketball season is in full swing. Their tournaments will be held in Geyser and Stanford on April 5-6. They are coached by Cody Martinez and Cody Ahlgren. Good luck to all of you. The state skills USA competition is in Helena on March 24-27 and the state FFA will be held in Bozeman on April 2-6. There is a lot going on this spring in the school. It is a busy time of year for farmers and ranchers as well. Farming, calving, planting all happen in the spring.

St Patrick’s Day is March 17 and Easter is March 31. Happy St Patrick’s Day and Happy Easter to all!

WINNETT SENIOR NEWS

A reminder that senior meal prices went up in October. Members’ meals are $4.00, guests are $5.00. If you request a take-out meal, it is $5.00 for members, and $7.00 for nonmembers.

Oct 5 -Thirty seniors enjoyed chicken alfredo, broccoli, cookie salad, and chocolate cake. Butch Arthur won Senior of the month. Congratulations! The Pastor of the Methodist Church won the 50/50 for 10.

Oct 12 – Roast Beef, mashed potatoes with brown gravy, Festival corn, rolls, and apple crisp was on the menu today.

Oct 19 – Chili with beans with toppings, cheese slices, veggie tray, and cinnamon twists was a wonderful meal for a crisp fall day. There were twenty-seven members and 5 take-out meals. Murray Lou from Area II in Roundup will be here next week. If anyone would like to talk to her about Medicare Part D, you can make an appointment with her in Roundup. The Food Bank in Lewistown is grateful for the donations we give them from our Mail A Meal boxes. Bingo was played this past Sunday and they had 27 people come out to enjoy the afternoon. The next bingo will be November 14. Sharon won the 50/50 for $10.

Oct 26 – Seniors cancelled today due to snow and ice.

Nov 2 – There were thirty members and six take-out orders for our birthday meal. Oven fried chicken, mashed potatoes with milk gravy, lettuce salad, cranberries with ice cream and cake. We are having our October chicken dinner today due to being cancelled last week. Thank you to Luann for the birthday cake. Tammie won senior of the month for November. Congratulations! There will be Veteran’s Day program at the school next Thursday and we will be celebrating our Veterans’ here at seniors also. Sharon won the 50/50 or $10.50.

Nov 9 - There were thirty-six people here today, including Veterans to enjoy our meal of lasagna, salad, relish tray, garlic bread, and pumpkin bars. Today we honored Bob Flansburg, Brad Olson, Ralph Corbett, Fred Gillett, Leo Tarplee, Craig Torgerson, Chuck Allen. A few others who were at the school but didn’t make it to the Senior dinner were John Pugrud, Bill Cassell, Larry Schaefer. Thank you all for your service and willingness to serve. Kim read a poem about the missing soldier. Gary and Linda sang “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Linda played the guitar, and both sang. We said goodbye to Gene Stewart, former Winnett Resident living in Lewistown, and Paul Iverson, Tom and Diane Iverson’s son. We send our prayers and sympathy to friends and family.

Nov 16 - Beef Barley Soup, broccoli raisin salad, orange fluff salad, crescent rolls, and cupcakes were enjoyed by thirty-six seniors and seven take-outs. Lewistown Health District is in Winnett today if you want covid or flu shots. Mail A Meals will be here November 28 around 3:00.Today is the last session of the Stepping on Program. Winnett Craft Bazaar is Sunday the 19th at PCCC from 10-3:00. The Methodist Church will be serving a soup and salad lunch that you can purchase. Jim Johnke informed us that Annie Shirley passed away. The funeral will be at Melstone school on Sunday at 1:00. The 50/50 for $13 was won by Butch.

Nov 23 – Happy Thanksgiving! No seniors today.

Nov 30 - Thirty-eight seniors and seven take-outs enjoyed the birthday dinner of oven fried chicken, mashed potatoes with milk gravy, cranberries, lettuce salad, relishes and birthday cake with ice cream. November birthdays celebrated are Phyllis, Ginger, Patti. Happy Birthday! The Mail A Meal boxes are here. The fruit order from PIE will be delivered today to the gym. Stop by and pick up your order. We learned today that Gary Smith of Roy passed away. He did a lot of business in Winnett as well as the surrounding towns. We send our sympathy to friends and family. Linda G. won the 50/50 for $13.50. Ralph won the senior of the month for December.
