Death By Association, followed by Death By Hostility, two novels by Roundup local Dani Clifton, follow protagonist Samantha Harris, a security analyst, who finds herself caught up in more than she bargains for. Hired to find security weaknesses for cutting edge companies, she does background checks on potential employees and business owners. The character is serious, yet endearingly quirky and humorous. She might use questionable tactics at times, but only for the right reasons, at least we think so. The books are sure to put a smile on your face, yet keep you turning the page to find out what is around the corner. If you like the detective genre, and a continuing character, these two books are for you. Within the first few chapters I knew that this is a book for a cool rainy day and a favorite blanket. Some books feel a bit like comfort food.

Following an inner voice that had directed pivotal moments in her life, Author Dani Clifton sat down after a season of inner conflict, and begin writing. Dani was discovered by Robert Jordan's agent Nat Sobel about fifteen years ago, who told her that he was a fan of her work. She had not yet finished anything in whole, but was given a chance to work with Nat. However, after working with Nat for about a year, she realized she was just telling his story and her own voice had dried up. She felt that she was writing to please someone else's ideas. She decided to go back to writing for herself to be true to her own ideas. She sat down, started, and kept going. Writing not one, but two, detective novels, that have been published. She has begun her third novel "Death by Retribution", coming soon.

Coming to Montana from Oregon, Dani and her husband lived the "van life" for a while. Finding the outside view from their nomadic lifestyle changed their perspective, and they no longer felt suited to Oregon. The travels brought them to Montana, and they found their new pastures in Musselshell County, a culture and community that felt compatible.
