Lenora passed away peacefully on May 21st, 2023, from complications of pneumonia with her daughter Laura by her side.

Lenora was born on December 11, 1933, to Leonard and Inez Eld in Petroleum County, Montana. She took the last name of Hassett when her mother remarried in 1943. After graduating from college with a bachelor's degree from Montana State University, she met Melvin Ackers at a dance in Bozeman Montana. They married on Dec. 20, 1954.

Melvin was an engineer for the Federal Highway Adminstration, working on roads in National Parks and Forests. His job took Lenora and the family all over the Northwest. Lenora enjoyed the adventure of traveling and raising their three children, Laura, Allen, and Sharon. In 1969 they settled in Ridgefield, WA where Lenora took a teaching job at South Ridge Elemetary.

In later years Lenora, with her friend Helen Zook, opened an alterations shop called the 'Green Thimble'. This thriving business fulfilled her passion for sewing.

While living in Washington, DC and again in the state of Washington, Melvin and Lenora opened their home to many immigrants, providing them with a caring start to a new life.
