Flag Raising Ceremony on Veterans Day

Every year our local Veterans do the Flag Raising Ceremony at the Grade School. It is always a somber moment when the guns are fired, and taps are played. It always brings tears to my eyes, and this year was no exception as I stood with over three hundred well behaved and perfectly quiet grade-schoolers and adults in two degree weather.

In the moments before the ceremony, as I stood waiting, the children were brought outside, and as they passed I heard one child comment to another, "This is really serious". I want to give a special thanks not only to our Veterans who served and still serve our Country and Community, but also to the teachers and parents who have put a respect for them in the children. It is a reminder that they are the future, and the future is still bright.
