Public Swimming Pool

To Mayor Jones and Roundup City Council,

It was upsetting that the pool was not open on time again this year (June 1st). The pool closed early last year due to the leak which is only now being repaired. There always seems to be some problem, be it broken boiler parts or personal problems, which make the swimming pool season shorter for the community. It appears that the public swimming pool is low on the list of priorities for Roundup public officials, though it should not be.

This is unfortunate. There are many people and families who are living in economic hardships in Roundup and rely on the pool in the summer as a source of family fun and physical activity and a place for their kids to be actively involved in clean fun. Senior citizens count on the pool to relieve aching bones and the buoyancy of the water allows for stress free exercise. In a community where there are so few public services, keeping the pool open and operating at a functional level should be a top priority for the Mayor of Roundup and the City Council.

I subscribe to the Roundup paper to keep up with the happenings of the Roundup community. In the past, everything related to the pool would be posted in the paper well ahead of time including swimming lesson signups. This would be an ideal strategy for future communication regarding the pool.

Unfortunately, there was nothing in the paper about the pool, so I inquired last week and was told there was no opening date for the pool. A simple article explaining what was going on with the pool and summer scheduling would have been benefited the community. We would be able to make plans accordingly and look forward to enjoying the numerous benefits the pool has to offer.

Public officials have a civic responsibility towards the citizens of the community. Please post an article in the newspaper and on Facebook about the pool closure, when it will open and most importantly, please strive to keep our pool open for the entire season, every season.
