Mr. Josiah Mayfield is the New Superintendent of Schools

 


The Roundup School District Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Mr. Josiah Mayfield has been hired as the new superintendent of schools.

Mr. Mayfield brings a wealth of experience in education and program management, from his 20+ years of experience working in the classroom, at the State Department of Education and-as a District Administrator. He is scheduled to begin his position on July 1, 2022. Mr. Mayfield earned his master's degree, teaching credential, and bachelor's degree from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA. His degree is in agriculture education with a focus in program management. Mr. Mayfield currently serves as the Career Technical Education (CTE) Coordinator for the Amador County Unified School district (ACUSD) in Jackson, CA. In the past 3 years with ACUSD, Mr. Mayfield has written, been awarded, and manages grant funding for career based educational programs that exceeds $4 million dollars and serves more than 1,000 students across the district.

Prior to ACUSD, Mr. Mayfield spent 11 years as an educational consultant for the California Department of Education. In this role he managed the 2nd largest FFA association in the country. The California FFA Association serves over 85,000 high students, over 700 high school teachers, and over 300 high school programs. Mr. Mayfield focused on leadership development, career based instructional strategies, and community growth initiatives during his time with the California Department of Education.

Along with this addition, we are excited to announce that Angela Mayfield has been hired as the new agriculture education teacher and FFA advisor.

Mrs. Mayfield is scheduled to begin her position in August. Mrs. Mayfield earned her master's degree, teaching credential, and bachelor's degree in Agriculture Education from California State University, Chico. Mrs. Mayfield is currently serving as an agriculture teacher and FFA Advisor at Argonaut High School in Jackson, CA. Mrs. Mayfield was hired to save the Argonaut FFA program. Prior to her arrival the program was experiencing decreasing membership and was scheduled to be suspended by the state agency. In the past 4 years due to Mrs. Mayfield's leadership the program has grown from 100 students to over 300 students and three agriculture teachers.

Prior to Argonaut High School, Mrs. Mayfield spent 10 years working as the lead agriculture instructional designer for the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture. During this time, she worked on instructional resources for the Beef Cattle industry, Pillars of Agriculture Literacy, and many other resources that are utilized in agriculture classrooms across the country. Mrs. Mayfield arrives with a variety of FFA experiences as both an educator and student member. As a student member Mrs. Mayfield served as the National Western Region Vice President for the National FFA organization. During this year of service, she traveled throughout the country speaking and advocating for agriculture.

In a statement from the Mayfield family, they stated, "we are excited to join the Roundup school district family and Roundup community. This is a big move for our family, and in every interaction we have had with members of the community we have felt welcomed and embraced. We hope to meet more community members this next year, and we are ready to support the wonderful family values and traditions of Roundup."
