Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I want to apologize for the miscommunication. The contact information that was shared with you was incorrect. I read the Roundup Record last week and was saddened when I saw you had reached out for an interview regarding the upcoming school board election.

I know that as I write to you this will not get into the paper until after the day of voting. But I still felt passionate about answering the questions asked to the other respected candidate. So here I go...

Why am I seeking the upcoming (now past) School Board Member position?

Truly, I have a different viewpoint, I as a parent in this school district, really feel and see the impact of the decision made by our School Board. I want to be part of the solutions, I want to hear the concerns ask the questions, give genuine thought to the decisions being made not just short term but long term.

I would like to see parents, friends and community members getting involved and I think having a board member or having board members that are actively involved will encourage parents and community members and remind them that they do matter, that it truly "takes a village".

What values do you bring to the position if elected?

I value our youth, because they are our future. They are the reason we should always strive to be better, for them. I also value our teachers and all staff. I have in the past substitute taught for our High school and Jr High when they were short staffed. I truly grew a new form of respect and admiration for what they do every single day for our students. I have also subbed as a janitor for both schools and I like previously stated "it takes a village" every single piece of this puzzle is important, from the superintendent, teachers, secretaries to the janitorial staff. So, my greatest values are the values of unity, community and transparency for all.

What School Board issues are most important to you?

Communication and Transparency. I think we've got to rebuild the trust with our parents, community members and the youth. I think rather than a parent or community member feel uneasy about attending a School Board meeting I want them to feel eager to show up, eager and able to ask questions and be heard. I am not oblivious to the fact that there are limits to what a Board can and cannot do. But what I have learned over time is that most people just really want to be heard and we need to listen. We need to be able to take a concern or a praise and be able to build off of that and try to be better try to do better. It's the listening and active attempts with or without failure that matters. School Board meetings should be a place of communication and transparency. A place you can go to, to get information and know that they are doing everything they can to be better, and that would be my goal as a School Board Member.

By now the votes are in and we more than likely we know who has been elected. To whomever the successful candidate is congratulations I wish you the best in your years on the board.

Lastly, I would like people to know I am active in our schools, our sports and in our community. My energy seems never ending and I think to sum up who I am I will repeat a phrase or motto I have said to my kids since they were very young.

In everything you do,

"BE KIND".

Thank you for taking the time to read my responses and if I was not elected, I will certainly run the next time another School Board position opens up. Thank you,

Angelica Mozqueda

Roundup, Mt
