Students must be 10 or older to take and pass this course however, class size is limited to 30 and preference will be given to those students who are going to be 12 or older by January 16, 2023.

Students can register for the class online at http://fwp.mt.gov/education/hunter/. A parent or guardian must accompany the student on April 25th and will be asked to stay for about 30 minutes. Hunter safety books will be handed out on April 25th and students will need to read the entire book and answer the questions at the end of each chapter before classes begin on May 2nd.

Students are required to attend all classes to pass the course, including the field day that will be held on Saturday, May 7th at the Roundup Sportsman’s Association’s shooting range.

In the 2015 legislative session HB 140, creating the hunter apprentice hunting certificate, was enacted. The bill allows for students under the age of 12 to hunt and/or to take and qualify for a hunter safety certificate.
