FLATWILLOW and WINNETT NEWS

November 3, 2021

Flatwillow Homemakers met at Raye Anne Lund’s home on September 14. Donna was the co-hostess. There were nine members present and four were absent. We had one guest, Florence’s daughter Marlene Samuels. Luann, Jean, and Donna all celebrated birthdays in August. Melody has a birthday in September. Luann called the meeting to order due to Sandy being absent. Luann led the Pledge of Allegiance. Donna read the thought for the day titled “The World We Make”. Roll call was answered with “what did we do this summer”. Minutes of the last meeting were approved. Treasurer’s report was given. We had a discussion on future table favors. We will do some for Halloween. Luann, Ginger, and Babs will plan to do the favors. Dues were paid, and we filled out our program books. Florence won the blind pig. Everyone bid on the opportunity table. Secret sister gifts were opened. We had a fun time guessing who might have had our name for their secret sister. We drew for new secret sisters for the coming year. The next meeting will be at Ginger’s home on October 12. It was a fun meeting and great to catch up on the news and visit after not having Homemakers during the summer. In addition to Raye Anne and Donna Lund, Jean Cook, Linda Gershmel, Luann Knutson, Babs Lea, Ginger Moore, Lillian Moore, and Florence Wacker were all here, as well as Marlene. See you next month.

Our sympathy goes out to several of our friends and community neighbors who have passed away. We said goodbye to Ben Maytum, and we lost another great friend in Karen Tetreault. We send our prayers to Mike and family at the loss of Karen and to Ben’s family.

We want to continue to send our prayers and hugs to Brad Stahl, Helen, and their whole family. Brad has been battling Covid and viral pneumonia. He was in the Roundup Hospital and is now in Billings Clinic. He has been on a ventilator, but they are trying to wean him off the ventilator. It has been a rough go for him and the whole family. Please lift them up in prayers and hugs.

Congratulations to our Grass Range/Winnett Lady Rangers as they advance to Divisionals for volleyball. These girls have worked so hard. The last couple of years have been tough for our Lady Rangers in Volleyball, and Lady Rams in basketball. Graduation, sickness, not as many students meant both programs have been in a rebuilding year. The volleyball team went into the tournaments in last place and are now going to Divisionals in 3rd place. That is so wonderful. I’m betting our basketball teams will be just as good. Another year of experience and the enthusiasm of our coaches, team, and fans are all positive. Good luck ladies!

We are also proud of our new co-op football team. The DGS-GRW Bearcats finished at the top in their conference and are going to semifinals. For a first year team that combined kids from five school, they did awesome. In these rural schools where there are not as many kids, it is a wonderful way to let those that want to play have the chance to play. Good luck to you also.

We also had some boys go on to state in cross country. I’m not sure how they did but proud of them for working hard and making it to state. Proud of our students, coaches, parents, fans for being there for all our kids.

The ground breaking ceremony for the Petroleum County Community Center will be at 4:00 on November 8. There will be cookies and hot drinks available. Everyone is welcome to be a part of starting the process for our new community center to be built.

On a personal note, I am now a proud and happy gramma. My son and his wife had a baby girl on Oct 14 they named Alexis. I’m so excited to be in the Grandma Club. There has been a number of babies born in Petroleum County in the last 6-8 months. A regular baby boom here. Our school enrollment should look great in about 5-6 years. Exciting things happening in Petroleum County.

Good luck to all our sports teams. Stay safe, stay warm and have fun.

Happy Halloween!
