I was the third of three children born to Joe and Louise Kenda at Klein. My siblings are Violet and Elvin. We lived in Dead Man's Coulee and attended Klein School. I enlisted in the United States Navy in March 1946 and served in the Pacific.
There I guarded Japanese prisoners of war and assisted in their repatriation to the home land. I was discharged in 1948.
I re-entered the Navy during the Korean Conflict. As a landing craft operator, I was assigned to Boat Unit One, Pacific Fleet, and landed the 1st Marine Division during the amphibious assault at Inchon....
