Charlie was born on July 12, 1927, and passed to his rest on the evening of August 2, 2021. He was the oldest of five children of Max and Zella (Kohlmyer) Schenk. Born on a homestead west of Colstrip, MT, he attended first grade at Trail Creek Country School. All of the students rode to school on horseback. As a six-year-old, he rode with his father, Max.The following year the family moved twelve miles south of Forsyth, MT so the children could walk to Armell's Creek School.
