Stan's Metal Works

Years ago, Stan Cunningham went to school and got an Associate's degree in manufacturing, he knew the skills before, as he had always taken an interest in building things, but was then officially able to use the correct terminology. After many years of using his skills professionally and as a hobby, he has created his own business fabricating metal signs.

You may recognize Stan, having been at the Busy Bee flee market the past few years, and you have probably seen some of his work around town. His work is precise, colorful, and attractive. He has now been working three years in metal sign fabrication. When he began, he was doing this by hand. He invested in a plasma cutting machine and upped his game. Now production and orders are flying, and Stan has been able to retire from his full-time job to focus fully on this endeavor.

Now, most of Stan's business is special orders, but he still does craft shows. His signs have a wide range of designs that can be customized with a variety of fonts and colors. He buys ONLY American steel and American products even if he has to pay more. The final product is completely American made. He explains that even buying all American made supplies, he still can keep prices competitive and keep shipping costs fairly low.

Stan can cut all different thicknesses of metal, but the thinner the piece, the simpler and less expensive the final product. He uses a CNC cad program to design and adjust the size to order, and then his computer talks to cutting device and the sign is cut. The next process of his creation is an acid wash, then he buffs the sign, does a color finish prep, stains the piece, and then does the final automotive clear coat for a beautiful one of a kind, American made, finished product.

Stan is also able to fabricate metal parts. He can make custom metal pieces, brackets, automotive items that are no longer manufactured, and probably anything else you can imagine from metal.

This home business is growing, and Stan is planning to add on to his shop for the expansion. He is currently about two months out on orders but can rush something if needed. He will not cut a special-order project without a deposit, as he does not want to be stuck with a special order. If it is just a standard design a deposit is not necessary. Custom work can include monograms, addresses, etc.

Stan's Metal Works is registered with the state of Montana, and is an official vendor of Montana Made products.

Like many folks in and around Roundup, Stan provides one more colorful thread to the tapestry of our community.
