Winnett Senior News Flatwillow News

Flatwillow Homemakers met at Donna Lund’s home on January 12. Sandi was the hostess and took care of the main part of the meal. Nine members were able to meet today. Birthdays celebrated this month were Arlene, Sandi, and Florence. Happy Birthday! Shirle Wiggins’ birthday is also this month so we wish her a Happy Birthday even though she is not able to come to our meetings anymore. Donna read the thought for the day called “Dusting”. Roll call was answered with “our plans for this year”. Minutes and treasurer’s report were approved as presented.

Under unfinished business, we decided not to do table favors for Valentine’s Day this year. The 4-H group usually makes cakes or cupcakes and give to the senior. We will think about favors either for St. Patrick’s Day or Easter. We will discuss this at the next meeting. Linda won the blind pig. Everyone bid on the opportunity table. Bonnie Moore will host the February meeting on the 9th. Lillian will be co-hostess. There will be secret sister gifts given in February. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Besides Donna and Sandi, Raye Anne Lund, Jean Cook, Luann Knutson, Linda Gershmel Lillian Moore, Bonnie Moore, and Florence Wacker were able to be here. See you next month. Flatwillow Homemakers met at Bonnie Moore’s home on February 17. It was postponed a week from the regular scheduled date of February 9 because of the severe cold temperatures and snow. Lillian was co-hostess. There were no February birthdays. There were nine members present and four absent. Donna Lund, Raye Anne Lund, Jean Cook, Linda Gershmel, Luann Knutson, Ginger Moore, Lillian Moore, and Babs Lea were all there. We had one guest, Sherry Caulfield. It is always nice when Sherry is able to be there. Bonnie called the meeting to order and led the Pledge to the flag. Lillian read the thought for the day called “Dirt Roads”. We answered roll call with what our favorite flower is. Minutes and Treasurer’s report from January were read and approved. Under unfinished business, we decided to do table favor for the seniors in April for Easter. The March meeting will be held at Sandi’s home in Huntley, and Melody will host the April meeting. Opportunity table will be at Sandi’s house. Babs won the blind pig. Secret sister gifts were handed out and admired. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned. It is nice to see warmer weather on the way. Hopefully, March will come in like a lamb and go out like a lamb. See you next month.

We had to say goodbye to some more dear friends from the Winnett Community. Ellen Woods and Doris Morton are now free from pain. We send our sympathy and hugs to the families of both Ellen and Doris.

February has been the “I Love to Read” month. Several activities have been planned for our students. The theme is I Love to Read Month-Read Around the World. February 1 is Escape Room: Holidays Around the World. February 4 – Dress as your favorite book character, the 11th you get to read with a blanket or stuffed animal and the 18th, is read with a flashlight day. How fun is this. February 8 and 15 are craft Day – Hot Air Balloons Part 1 and part 2. February 22 we are doing Foods from Around the World, the 25th is t shirt scavenger day. You can wear a t-shirt with writing. February sounds like a fun month to check into reading your favorite books. March 1 will be the Book Quiz Bowl and finale.

News from the Music Department. Winnett music students will be fundraising with Elliott’s from February 9-22. After discussion with the company, they decided that packets are the best way to sell to our town. Be sure to order your cookie dough, pasta, and other treats and support the music program. The music students are still preparing for the pre festival concert on March 16. They also plan to perform at the Music Festival. They just aren’t sure yet what the format will be. We are still waiting for the decision to be made by MHSA. The schedule of music activities will be sent home as soon as we get the information.

Our basketball teams went to District Tournament in Lewistown on February 17th – 20th. We are so proud of both our Rams and Lady Rams. Our boys took 3rd in Districts. Congratulations to all of you. They went to Divisional Tournaments in Great Falls the next week. They played hard and didn’t give up. Our ladies are a young team and have played hard all season. They kept getting better and better. I look forward to next year to see the talent we have in our school. Our girls have a lot of talent and enthusiasm coming up. Next year our girls and boys could both very well be heading up to Divisionals. Be sure and support our teams. One exciting note is we had a great showing of fans and support and the largest student section in Great Falls to cheer on our boys. Thank you to Jarret and Shana Grant, Sheryll Morales and Kyle Hubbard for taking our students up in the pep bus and van. Thank you to all and to our community for all your support.

We just came through a couple of weeks of terrible brutal cold. Winnett had the unpleasant distinction of having the lowest actual temperature in the state at one point with -42 degrees. That is cold. Hope all you that began calving in February were able to keep those cows and calves in a warm barn. Luckily, it is nice weather coming up and will keep getting warmer and warmer. Happy Spring!
