One Question

In case you hadn’t noticed, we are in the middle of a very important election year. Soon it will be time to decide who you are going to vote for, if you haven’t already. I’ve somewhat simplified this process in my life by asking a few very simple questions about what the candidates believe. What do they stand for and so in turn how will they vote. In fact it has gotten so simple for me that generally I key in on one specific question. That question is, “what do you believe about the rights of a baby in the mother’s womb?” It can be asked a number of ways but that expresses what I really want to know about the candidate. The answer to this one question will often times tell me who I will vote for. Other things are important to me but this has become my most important issue.

The number one reason is that God is the creator and the giver of life. In Genesis 2 it says that God formed man out of the dust of the ground and that He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living creature. Although the process is different God is still the creator of each life. Psalm 139:13-16, “For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them.” When we step in and alter the God given cycle of life, it is a sin. It has become normalized in our world and in our country. God will only tolerate it for so long and at some point the hand of His judgement will fall. Because I believe this I will vote people into positions that have the authority to change the current trend. I will vote for people who believe that God is the giver of life.

How do you know what a person believes? If you have a chance to personally talk to them, just ask them. Get a straight answer, don’t let them beat around the bush. In some cases past voting records can tell you what they believe. There are also voter guides you can find on websites that will give you valuable information. I would encourage you to start this process now to decide who you should vote for, who can correctly answer this one question.
