Letter to Editor

Several articles in last week's paper got me to thinking. The article on E-15 reminded me that we've gone to Petro to E-10 to E-15 and obviously it is not going to stop with E-15. Next is E-85 and finally E-100 (straight alcohol). Also, the effort seems to be independent of party since we've jumped from E-10 to E-15 during a republican administration. Of course alcohol has been used before as a fuel. During WWII the Germans couldn't get their hands on Petro so their entire war machine ran on alcohol. Tanks, jeeps, planes, troop carriers, etc all ran on (clean) E-100. The Nazi's were probably the most ecologically sensitive murdering thugs in all of history. Seems to me that we ought to take note that we are beginning to try to power America on Hitler's gas.

It's not just gas though. The Pastor's corner last week touched on the recent mass shootings. Long ago when we heard of violence and tradegy overseas we would all cluck our tongues and say "I'm glad that didn't happen in America". Now that we have violence in America we all cluck our tongues and say "I'm glad that didn't happen in my state". Maybe next year we will all be clucking our tongues and saying "I'm glad that didn't happen in my town".

The media's answer to all the problems they focus on is to support socialism so that human government will make the problems go away. It hasn't been spoken of yet but I keep wondering if the media would actually like to see a National Socialist party take over in America. Since the divide between Republicans and Democrats seems to be getting smaller each year (at least in terms of policy outcomes) maybe the media is going to get it's wish yet.

I mix this in with the rise of surveilance in America, secret courts making decisions that allow the government to take away children or old people out of their homes in the middle of the night and a lack of memory about the problems earlier generations faced and overcame by great sacrifice. It seems to me that these days are like watching a horizon of dark clouds on a sunny day. It's nice out right now but we have the feeling that rain, hail, tornado and violence are headed our way. I can almost hear Jesus' statement in Luke 13:34-35 or Matthew 23:37-39 being applied to us. Jesus' wish that we shelter under the wings of God comes straight out of Psalm 91 verse 4 and right now Psalm 91 seems very applicable to our future.
