  • Matson Ranches

    Larry and Jane Stanfel|Aug 21, 2019

The history of Matson family ranches in Musselshell County has two roots, one bound up with the Lackey’s, which will take the next place in our series. The senior Matson was an immigrant, German homesteader, whose property passed into the hands of his son, Emil. The original Lackey homestead was just adjacent to this, and when the Lackey’s passed away, Emil’s brother, Alfred, bought that land in order to be near his brother. For some reason it was advantageous for tax purposes that the broth...

  • Letter to Editor

    Aug 21, 2019

Several articles in last week's paper got me to thinking. The article on E-15 reminded me that we've gone to Petro to E-10 to E-15 and obviously it is not going to stop with E-15. Next is E-85 and finally E-100 (straight alcohol). Also, the effort seems to be independent of party since we've jumped from E-10 to E-15 during a republican administration. Of course alcohol has been used before as a fuel. During WWII the Germans couldn't get their hands on Petro so their entire war machine ran on alcohol. Tanks, jeeps, planes, troop carriers, etc...

Chris Bischof, Senior Writer Bakken Oil Business Journal|Aug 21, 2019

The supporters of Green Technology never tire of claiming that sunlight and wind are free and endlessly available and are therefore the obvious choice for the future of energy. The sun and wind are free, they say, and for that reason we should accept their claim that renewable energy will be the low-cost energy that will replace oil, coal and natural gas. But they omit an important fact. Critical components in the equipment that converts sun and wind into electricity depend on specific metals. Those metals have characteristics necessary for...
