Roundup FFA Wraps Up Successful Year with New Leadership Team

Roundup, MT, May 17, 2024 - A new team of student leaders will guide Roundup FFA into the next year, capping off a season of success for this chapter. The annual FFA Banquet, held at Roundup High School May 15th, showcased the awards earned by local students at state-wide events, and installed the new Chapter Officer Team. Roundup FFA will be led by President Ty Pierce, Vice Presidents Russell Lang and Lily Vickers, Secretary Charlee Shaw, Treasurer Erik Goffena, Reporter Reagan Mayfield, Sentinel Dominick Veach, Historian Cheyanne Worley and Parliamentarian Monte Pedrazzi.

It was a year of great accomplishment for Roundup FFA students. Our Agricultural Issues team of Russel Lang, Emalee Vickers, Ty Pierce, Logan Marr, and Taylor Mccord placed 2nd overall in the state competition. This competition requires students to study a real world problem in agriculture and present a balanced, research-based viewpoint. Russel Lang, Employment Skills Leadership Development Event Finalist, Placed 7th in the State. In this competition individuals submit a cover letter, resume, and application, and complete a telephone and in person interview. The Roundup Meats team of Erik Goffena, Ethen Shoup, Luke Harper, and Jason Main broke into the top 10 this year, finishing 7th in the state. This contest tests the ability of students to accurately assess beef carcass for quality and yield grade, as well as identify meat cuts and wholesale or retail cuts and place carcasses.

In speaking competitions, eighth grader Monte Pedrazzi made the big stage, placing 2nd in the state in Jr Creed Speaking. Roundup FFA also had finalists Charlee Shaw in Sr Creed Speaking, Lily Vickers in Prepared Speaking, and Josie Shaw in Extemporaneous Speaking. Charlee Shaw was also a top 8 finalist in the Star Greenhand competition, representing the Southeast District.

Roundup FFA’s Livestock Judging team placed 5th with Charlee Shaw as the 6th high individual in the state. The livestock team worked extremely hard this year practicing livestock evaluation, scenarios, EPD’S and reasons classes. Congratulations to the Livestock Team! The Vet Science team, consisting of Taylor McCord, Mia Vescovi, Ty Pierce, Logan Marr earned a commendable 13th in the state, demonstrating their knowledge performing veterinary practicums, parasite and tool identification, and critical thinking scenarios.

Under the guidance of coach Andrea Thatcher of Rimrock Flower Farm, the Floriculture Career Development Event team of Kaydence Rivera, Emalee Vickers, Remington Hiester and Josie Shaw placed 16th in the state - a great finish for our new team! Luke Harper, Weston Austin, Kyle Brewer and Logan Marr represented Roundup in the Agriculture Technology and Mechanics Career Development Event as well.
