Seen Around Town

The Senior Kitchen

MCCOA underwent some changes recently. I sat down with Tracy Moody and Natalie Hazleton to discuss what's been going on over there.

Tracy came onto the scene in December, 2023. Natalie has been working at MCCOA for some years. Now Ashley Blackcrow Craig recently became the kitchen's cook.

Musselshell County Council on Aging is separate from the Golden Thimble and the Food Bank. Although all three share common areas, they are really separate services. MCCOA concentrates on getting people out of their homes and into a social setting with a meal, fellowship and fun.

Volunteers serve many in capacities at MCCOA. Dorothy McConnell has served over twenty years, and is also bingo master for the Saturday games. Other volunteers make sure the food is ready to go, the tables are clean, and the coffee is on.

Meals on Wheels is a program to help seniors or disabled citizens that are housebound. RSVP is responsible for scheduling the volunteer delivery drivers.

Lunch costs $5 and the menus are planned according to the guidelines of the US government. If you'd like to dig deeper, try this website:

Blue Bird buses serve the community by providing rides to those who need transportation around town, or down to Billings for medical appointments. Call 406-323-2015 for more information. There is a fee for this service.

You can reach MCCOA at 406-323-2015 with any other questions.

Read me a story!

I saw an advertisement in the Roundup Healthcare Clinic exam room. I love to read, so this really interested me. And as a bonus, there was a small child's drawing that stated, "I read to be smart."

Their mission is to use children's books and shared reading to help support parents and caregivers in fostering early literacy and healthy relationships with their infants and young children.

Read to your baby, your infant, your child. Start that little one off right and read. There's a library in town to borrow books if you don't have any. The library also has a story hour for children. Don't we all want our children to be the smartest they can be?

Listen, Learn, Laugh

Keeley Williams held a piano recital in the Mussselshell Valley Historical Museum the other night. Eight of her students entertained as family and friends listened for their private concert. It's wonderful to know that children still take piano lessons these days.

The museum is open. You can visit daily from 1-5 PM and learn more about the Musselshell Valley area. Learn about your local history. This year the Klein display is new, the Dino display has changed, and all is cleaned and ready for your visit. Did you know can rent the basement of the Museum for your event? Just leave your information with one of the volunteers. A board member will contact you.

The Roundup Community Dinner Theater is back! After a hiatus of several years, they are practicing diligently to bring laughs back to the stage. Join the cast in June. They are busy cooking up a tasty menu of hilarity for you!
