Guided ranger walks offered at Pictograph Cave State Park every Saturday in February

BILLINGS –Pictograph Cave State Park, located just southeast of Billings at 3401 Coburn Road, is offering ranger-led walking tours every Saturday in February. Walks will be ¾ mile in length and last approximately one hour.

The interpretive walking tours will begin at 2 p.m. on the visitor center patio. Participants should dress for the weather and be prepared for potential snow and ice on the trail. Advanced registration is not required, and the walks are free to attend.

Pictograph Cave State Park is a designated National Historic Landmark because of its archeological significance.

The state park includes three natural sandstone caves considered some of the most important archeological sites in the Northern Plains and numerous pictographs, or rock paintings, dating back over 2,000 years. The walking tours will include information on the history and cultural significance of these features, and basic geology and ecology of the area.
