Letters to the Editor

March 29, 2023

From the members of Musselshell Valley VFW Post 4925 Roundup, Montana.

We feel that the cover of the Mid Rivers phonebook image is an improper display of the US Flag. Our flag is a symbol of freedom that has been supported by the many veterans that have served and by all who have given their life in defense of our country. lt is being depicted as a tablecloth.

A young child is making a mess eating on top of what appears to be an AmericanFlag. We feel this is disgraceful and degrading to our country. Especially to our active-duty men and women of the military and allveterans who have served. The US flag is our greatest symbol of what they currently fight for and have done so for over two hundred years. That flag deserves and demands respect by all citizens of this great United States.

Telling us it is just a tablecloth or that people wear "flag clothing" all the time is not the same as respecting our flag. lt is an example of poor judgement. Most assuredly it does not look like a tablecloth, it look like a flag being used as a tablecloth that is used as a drop cloth instead of flying high and free.

We understand that we have freedom of speech, but that speech should also be within due bounds showing respect as it has been earned.
