School Board To Hire New Principal

After a board meeting on March 8, 2023, the school board recommended the hiring of Michael Thomas at the next School board meeting March 13th at 7pm District office.
Michael Thomas was born and raised in Billings Mt, from there he moved to Alaska. He was a principal in Alaska at an elementary school and high school. He was also was a principal or administrator of a “behavior type school”.
Michael understands that disciplining our students is not just reprimanding them, but including the parents in a plan of action if a youth is repeatedly acting out. Making sure the student feels valued.
He has a 10-year plan to be in Roundup. He will retire from the Alaska school district and is looking forward to coming back to Montana. He has roots in Billings, but does not desire to be in Billings but on the outskirts such as Roundup. He has also applied at two other schools.
Michael states that he understands the importance of communication between the school and parents and will work on that relationship.
