Letters to the Editor

It’s strange how things can come together and get you to really start thinking about something. This happened to me recently when I came across an article concerning the rapid decline of church attendance in the United States, as well as what many Evangelicals are accepting as Biblical truth today. This decline has been going on for a long time, but in the past few years has really becoming alarming. “Evangelicals are also adopting fashionable cultural opinions about ethics, in particular about gender and sexuality, especially among young evangelicals.” This article was in the January 2023 of “Tabletalk” magazine, a monthly publication by Ligonier Ministries, a Reformed Presbyterian Church, headquartered in Sanford, FL. and founded by the late Dr. R.C. Sproul.

Then to top that information off, I came across a very interesting article in the “West Virginia Historical Magazine” of Oct. 1904 about General Daniel Morgan who served under General Washington during the Revolution. Morgan was born into a family of Quakers, but later in life became a Presbyterian. Not a man inclined to hell fire and damnation speaking, he did know what and why he believed. When questioned what his belief was he replied, “I have never said much on religion, but have always wished to support it, as I thought it the first spring and best support to good government. Where you have no religion, you are sure to have no government, for as religion disappears, anarchy takes place and fixes a complete Hell on earth ‘till religion returns.” These are sobering thoughts when you think about the corruption and non-accountability that we have been seeing in our government for a long, long time as well.

Putting non-accountability and corruption together with the lack of interest in the things of God, we could be heading for our own hell on earth right now.
