My great niece is starting kindergarten this year, and we were informed that there will be no school buses for children who live less than 3 miles each way. She would have to walk a little over a mile each way, cross main street, without so much as a crossing guard! I don't think this is safe, it is difficult for adults to cross that highway, let alone a little child of 5, not to mention the long walk in our winters.
