Carlene Alberta Rux Satterthwait

Carlene Alberta Rux Satterthwait was born to DeVore Verle Sparling Rux and Carl Albert Rux in her grand¬father Robert Sparling's home in Old Roundup, July 15, 1937. She was a preemie and slept in a shoebox instead of a crib. From that humble beginning Mom enjoyed life for 83 years. Mom peacefully passed away October 24, 2020.

Carlene met the love of her life, Ernest H. Satterthwait, during a dance at Riverside dance hall. A June bride, Carlene married Ernie on June 2, 1956, in the United Methodist Church in Roundup. They made their home in Roundup, Montana & for short periods of time in Glenrock, WY, Guernsey, WY, & Lewistown, MT. Mom enjoyed quilting where she made life-long friends through the Cross-Country Piecemakers' quilt group. Holidays with Mom meant 101 ways to make Jell-O salad, Santa cookies, Potica, and the 3-Wise Men ceramic candleholders. Birthdays, weddings, & graduations were celebrated with mom decorating a special cake. One time the dog helped himself; mom sliced the edge off and re-frosted the birthday cake before the celebration began.

In 2005, mom survived two massive strokes and worked hard to be able to come home. A new definition of love unfolded as we watched our mom and dad learn a different dance with dad taking the lead, helping mom live a wonderful life that filled both their hearts as well as ours with joy.

Mom and dad raised two reasonably well-behaved children, Roshelle and Ernest. She dearly loved her daughter-in-law and her three grandsons. She received great joy spending time with her three great-granddaughters. Carlene was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Robert. She leaves behind her husband of 64 years, Ernest H. (Roundup, MT), daughter Roshelle (West Richland, WA), son and daughter-in-law Ernest C. & Jenny (Eagle, ID), grandsons Jeremiah & Sarah (Tega Cay, SC), Shawn (Missoula, MT), Cody & Isabella (Nampa, ID), plus 3 beautiful great-granddaughters: Sophie, Zelda, & Caroline, brothers-in-law Joe and Mary (Odenton, MD), Virgil (Forsyth, MT), and an extended family of cousins, nieces nephews & outlaws.

Carlene's family would like to extend a special thank you to Jennifer Pisle & family, Colleen & Dick Erickson, John & Joan Perrella, Ron Solberg, Val Russell & the staff at Roundup Memorial Hospital and Dr. Katherine Dietrich, Dr. Courtney Certain, Dr. Tracy Harrington, Dr. Jennifer Ting, nurses Kathy, Nicole, Jackie & Margaret, respiratory care and the entire 4-Allard team at St. Vincent Healthcare who cared for and loved mom as if she were part of their own family. We thank you for your kindness & compassion during this very difficult time. Memorials can be made to the Musselshell County Volunteer Ambulance, St. Vincent Healthcare Foundation for use in the Palliative Care department, or the Roundup Memorial Hospital Foundation.

A Spring Celebration of Life is planned.

"Across the years I will walk with you -

in deep green forests; on shores of sand:

and when our time on earth is through,

in heaven, too, you will have my hand"
