Arbor Day 2020

October 21, 2020

The Tree Board/BUD would like to recognize the county and city officials for working together on the Arbor Day program that was held on the Courthouse lawn on October 16. It is the support of the community that enabled Roundup to receive the prestigious Tree City of the Year 2020 for the State of Montana. Mayor Jones accepted the award on behalf of the city and County Extension Agent Jennifer Solf presented information on the Emerald Ash Borer. As you may be aware, the Emerald Ash Borer is threatening the ash trees in Roundup and 70 percent of the trees are of this species. The tree raffle was won by Kenny Davis. In conjunction with this celebration seven failed trees were removed and new ones planted.

According to the tree inventory completed this year, property values in the community increased by over $230,000 each year because of the tree population. On-going projects by BUD/ Tree Board include pursuing grants for removal of hazardous and critical ash trees as identified by the inventory and replanting with a variety of species that are recommended by DNRC.
