Ignatius (Ned) Schaff

Ignatius (Ned) Schaff

Ignatius (Ned) Schaff passed away June 11, 2020 on the Schaff family farm following a battle with cancer. He was born to parents Mike and Audenia Schaff on the same family farm on July 18, 1934. He graduated from Lavina High School in 1951 and worked for brief periods of time for Sherwin Williams and for his brother. He then returned to farming/ranching working first with his brothers, and then with his children and grandchildren. Ned married Gail Belcher Schaff on June 1, 1957, celebrating 63 years of marriage this year. He was a past member of the Broadview Lions Club, Montana Pork Producers, and the Knights of Columbus. Although Ned worked hard on the farm, he always made time to attend the activities of his children and grandchildren, travelling hundreds of miles to support them in their endeavors. Ned was a quiet man, but when he said something, it was worth listening. His quick wit and humor were with him until the very end.

Ned is survived by his wife Gail; children, Tim (Natalie) Schaff, Tony Schaff, Martin (Teri) Schaff, Kerry (Eva) Schaff, Jacquie (Dan) Bymaster, James (Kristin) Schaff, Lisa (Jim) Browning, and Chad (Leslie) Schaff. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, his sister Eugenia (Ghigo) Lawrence, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 11 siblings.

Vigil services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday June 17, 2020 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Roundup, MT. Interment of ashes will follow the mass at the Lavina Cemetery in Lavina, MT.
