Lower Musselshell Conservation District Hires Forester

October 9, 2019

The Lower Musselshell Conservation District hired a new Forester, Bruce Reid, in April of this year. Bruce, a recently retired Forester with over 33 years experience in Forest and Fire Management can work with you to assess your forest landscape and home site and help you develop a Forest Management Plan specific to your site. The LMCD has a program to help landowners make their homes defensible from wildfires. This is done through our Fire-Safe Cost/Share Program. In collaboration with Snowy Mountain Development Corporation and the Bureau of Land Management we are excited to offer a cost-share program to landowners in Musselshell and Golden Valley Counties. Bruce will be happy to schedule a site visit with you to assess the defensibility of your home. He will work with you to create a forest treatment plan personalized to your home site in order to create a defensible perimeter. Bruce can provide you with a list of certified contractors to help you get started on your project. After the work is complete, the Lower Musselshell Conservation District will provide an incentive of 75% of the forester determined rates for up to 5 acres of land cleared.

The Lower Musselshell Conservation District will be hosting 3 meetings in October to talk to the community about this program and how they can better protect their homes from wildfires.
