Government; the protector or threat to life?

The founders of this nation, having suffered under the yoke of British tyranny and well aware of what history taught, declared that people should be free and independent.

Their ideas, outlined in the Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson, were further developed into what became the US Constitution.
