Though I normally feature a business or local person in our community, today I felt called to one of the greatest things about living in Musselshell County. Nature. People who love living in Montana like the outdoors. A complaint of new people is often "What is there to do here?"

I would like to feature a special public area called Asparagus Point, just down the road on Highway 12 heading East. Asparagus Point is a small recreation area where locals go to fish, hunt, camp, picnic, pick asparagus (in the spring), and walk your dogs around. Though it is more beautiful in the spring and summer, it is still a nice place to take a walk anytime of the year.

In the spring it is notorious for the wild asparagus, ticks, and bull snakes. My dog managed to find the rear end of a skunk with her nose on one spring day. There are a few nice trails that lead through the woods, and a picnic table to the back of the park where the river bends, and the hill to the behind the river becomes a cliff. You can see the remains of an old homestead, where someone started and ended their dreams.

Asparagus Point is managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). It is a walk-in park, no motorized vehicles beyond the parking area. The Treasure State, is more than just a reference to minerals, it is our people and treasured land.

If you haven't yet been to Asparagus Point, take a short drive, a sandwich, and enjoy the small peaceful stop along the highway. The park is surrounded by private property, so it is important to respect the boundaries, pick up your trash, and leave the place as you found it for the rest of the public.
