He was born to John Karel Roders Sr. and his wife Whilahmima Whiskstra in Hempstead, New York. He graduated in New York and served in the US Navy from 1958 to 1962.

He loved: fishing, hunting and traveling. He had many trophies, adventures and great stories. He was a successful businessman and owned John Roders Company as a ceiling contractor for over 50 years.
