WINNETT SENIOR NEWS

JANUARY 2022

Jan 6 - There were thirty seniors and seven take-out meals today. Our lunch was potato soup, chicken pasta salad, ham pickle roll-ups, relishes, and peach cobbler. We had two guests with us today, Luann’s grandchildren, Shelby and Cooper.

The Lions’ calendars are here. They will be handing them out today after the meal. Ronnie K. is home from the hospital and doing fine. He had been in the hospital in Billings with Covid, but he is recovering the rest of the way at home. Chuck Allen is out of the hospital. He also had Covid and was in the hospital for several weeks. He is staying in Billings with his sister Linda for now. Dave Grantier had also been in the hospital with diabetes problems. He is home now. Ben Maytum’s son’s neighbor bought Ben’s home here in Winnett.


Area II papers are here. Everyone is welcome to pick one up. Sylvia won the 50/50 for $11.00 Congratulations, Sylvia. Bingo will be held this Sunday, January 9, at 1:30 at the courthouse. Come join us for an afternoon of fun.

Patti told a joke about three doctors and their accomplishments. Linda G. told a joke. She also informed us that a foot clinic will be held on Tuesday, January 12 in the rec room of the apartments. Be sure and call her to set up an appointment.

Jan 13 -Tater tot casserole, lettuce salad, stuffed celery sticks, and bread pudding was enjoyed by thirty-two seniors and five take-out orders.

Bingo was held last Sunday, and will be held again on Sunday, January 23 at 1:30. All the money from the bingo games will go to upgrade the bingo equipment. They need to go “techy”, and it will cost $900 for the laptop and software.

Kim Tarplee won the 50/50 for $13.00 Patti gave a report on some of the appliances being purchased by the senior citizens and will be senior citizens’ property. Per Area II, seniors needs a locking freezer and a lock on their pantry. If the seniors write a check for anything, it is the property of the seniors. They plan to purchase a freezer, refrigerator, and a stove. The seniors will need to commit to the expense of these appliances. Patti would like to call a brief board meeting after the regular meeting to discuss. Seniors has enough money in the equipment fund to fully purchase these items. The senior fiscal year is July 1 – June 30. We need to pay it in this fiscal year. She took a vote of all the seniors here today on if they would like to make these purchases. It was unanimously voted to do this so it will be brought to the board for approval.

Jim Johnke gave an update on the burial/ceremony for Shirle Wiggins. There will only be a private family service sometime in May. They will bury her ashes in Flatwillow Cemetery. You can make a memorial to the charity of your choice but asked that it go through the Petroleum County Endowment Fund.

The seniors all signed a letter to be sent to Senator Jon Tester’s office. It is in support of the school superintendent Lindsey Wilkerson asking his office for his support for her husband to have his interview to be allowed to come to the United States. All his paperwork is in order and has been approved. The only thing left is the interview and the state department does not know when the interview will happen.

Jan 20 -There was no seniors today.

Jan 27 - I wasn’t there today so do not have any information to share.

FEBRUARY

Feb 3 - There were thirty seniors and seven take-out orders who enjoyed a lunch of cheesy broccoli soup, chicken salad sandwiches, brownie, and applesauce.

Georgia brought her sister Dorothy Kinkade from Bozeman as a visitor today. Florence is in the hospital in Roundup.

The Odd Fellows building is supposed to be shorn up by volunteers this weekend and they plan to move the building on February 7 at 10:00. Bingo

Bingo will be Sunday Feb 6 at 1:30 in the basement of the courthouse.

Kim informed us that a cancer walk will be held in Winnett on June 4. She will have more details later. Patti said there will be an impromptu board meeting with the PCCC and seniors board members. Raye Anne gave an update on Donna. She is not doing well and not able to get out and about. An update on Bill Menenger – he had his foot amputated yesterday in Billings. He will be there for a few days then they hope to move him to rehab in Lewistown for inpatient therapy. He will be there for a couple of weeks.

Melody was so happy. She told us she got her very first new car. It was exciting for her to get to choose her own car. Welcome back to Sylvia. She has missed several weeks due to sickness. Leo Tarplee won the 50/50 for $11.00.

Feb 10 - Meatloaf, baked potato, corn, cole slaw, and cupcakes made by the 4-H kids was enjoyed by thirty-one seniors.

Vicki from Area II was here. She handed out the senior newsletters. She said she spoke with Florence in the hospital and Florence apologized to all of the seniors that she wouldn’t be able to come to Winnett anymore. She loved coming to Winnett. She used to live here many years ago and her daughter went to Winnett School. Vicki is also starting up a “memory café” at Home on the Range in Roundup. Everyone is welcome.

Sharon Martin brought a friend from Grass Range to Winnett Seniors, and she plans to join. Welcome to our group. She is Chris Fleharty’s mom.

Florence Wacker passed away. She always came to seniors with Area II and helped out when she could. Her funeral will be held at 11:00 February 26 at Wier’s Funeral Home in Roundup. Reception to follow at Roundup Senior Citizens Center. Patti read the obituary that was in the Roundup paper. Memorials may be given to a charity of your choice.

David Iverson gave an update on Bill Menenger. He is moving to rehab in Lewistown today. He will be there 3-4 weeks. Kelly Mantooth is filling in for Bill. D

Luann read a poem called “63 and pregnant”. A fun piece of information is the Gary and Linda Gershmel got engaged on Valentine’s Day. Sunday the 27th is bingo day at the courthouse at 1:30. Cassie told 3 jokes. The 50/50 for $12.50 was won by Leo. . There will be a quick board meeting after lunch. Tonight is the town meeting to be held in the courthouse at 5:00 to discuss the state of our community, county, and school. Representatives from each will be here to discuss what is happening and answer any questions you may have.
