Roundup Commemorative Garden

Meeting Minnutes

3/30/22 6:00PM

Attendees: Andi Thatcher, Bev Eiselein, Anne Arthur, Wenda Wickland, Vivian Edwards, Kenny Davis

Treasurers Report: Vivian Edwards discussed treasurers report; Balance=$7413.10

Old Business:

Water System: Jason gave a rough estimate of $1,000 to replace the old drip system. It

is corroded and is no longer working properly. He plans to come the second week in April to replace it.

Flower Beds: Annual bed to be converted over to a perennial bed, 2 mature peonies and 1 orange poppy to be sourced from Garden Ave Greenhouse. Andi will purchase those when they open in early April. Andi has started vegetable plants for the vegetable

garden. She also suggests that we add several bags of compost to each raised bed to

improve the soil.

Bricks: New brick orders need to be submitted soon. Vivian says we have about 15 orders currently.

Weeds: The weeds that pop up in the ground surrounding the raised beds are a problem during the summer, and Andi suggests we lay several inches of mulch to suppress them. She will obtain a quote for 2-3 yards of mulch from AgriOrganics in Lockwood. Her and her husband have volunteered to pick up that load of mulch with their dump trailer.

New Business:

Spring Cleanup: Kurt Lang’s group may be able to help. Jaley Hitchcock has said she would like her class to participate in a community project, and that the garden cleanup would fit that bill. Someone from the garden club will need to meet her class at the garden on that day to tell them which plants are not to be removed. Andi volunteered to coordinate with Jaley once she has picked a day for her class to come over.

MVCF Grant: Vivian had the idea to apply for this grant to cover the cost of the new

drip system. Bev suggests that maybe we use money from the budget instead, so that we do not potentially take away grant funds from another community group that may

need it. Bev made a motion to use budget money instead, all attendees agree.

New Helpers: 4H kids, Jayley’s class, and Anita Birch

Other: Vivian mentioned to Gary Toombs that we’d like to lay concrete to connect the

walkway to the bench. Andi will also ask Pronto Construction is they would be willing to do it.

Vivian adjourned the meeting at 7:10pm.
