Morgan Smith is one of RHS students who placed in the state Speech and Drama competition, while also placing 9th in qualifying for National Speech and Debate. Morgan is a 16 year old student, and in her junior year. Morgan is small in stature, but powerful in presence. Her performance was an incredible statement on an important issue: child abuse.

Her point of view is from the imprisoned mother telling her story, as she is incarcerated for exacting a mother's justice on the perpetrators, a man and his wife, of sexually abusing her young son. When she finds out, she confronts the perpetrators, who try to minimize the issue. The perpetrators are neighbors as well as friends, who she trusted to care for this little boy when the mother needed a babysitter. When they mockingly show her files of other children they molested, she goes into a rage and kills them both. Morgan chose this piece as she knew it was a powerful and emotive tell.

Morgan really enjoys her speech and drama class, and only wishes she had started in her freshman year. She urges all students to take this, and adds it helped her find her voice and taught her to trust herself and her abilities. She adds not to overthink your performance, as it can hinder you. She started acting while attending a drama camp; she loved being the Cheshire cat in Alice in Wonderland.

Morgan likes volleyball, baking, visiting with friends, and going to the river.

Morgan wants to go into the forensics field when she graduates from college, and looks to perhaps doing forensic medical examination as a field in which she would concentrate. She is hoping to go to college at Michigan State University, which is renowned for their forensic science department.
