WINNETT SENIOR NEWS

Dec 3 - Sixteen seniors enjoyed a lunch of taco casserole, creamy coleslaw, jello with fruit, roll and cupcakes. Reminder to everyone that seniors will not meet on Christmas Eve, but we will have seniors on December 31.

We are looking at getting a new Christmas tree. Ours is getting old and falling apart. Bingo will be on Sunday, December 13 at 1:00.

Everyone voted to give the cooks a Christmas bonus. Gary and Linda performed a beautiful song “Footsteps walking with me” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”. It was so enjoyable to listen to them sing.

Ellen Woods has moved to Poplar, MT. Her son is there so she moved closer to family. Lindsay Flint brought potatoes in to give away. Anyone that would like some, please help yourself.

Dec 10 - Pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, potato chips, and peach cobbler was enjoyed by thirty-two seniors. There were twenty seniors in house, and twelve take-out meals.

Don’t forget that bingo will be this Sunday, the 13th at 1:00. The Christmas Stroll will be Saturday evening beginning at 6:00. Santa will ride down main street on the fire truck and be at the Breaks Store for pictures with Santa beginning at 6:30. The store and bar will be open offering door prizes, finger foods, and lots of Christmas cheer.

The seniors voted to replace our Christmas tree and buy new garland for our new tree. Linda will take blood pressures next week. See you at the stroll on Saturday and then at Bingo on Sunday.

Dec 17 - Twenty-one seniors and fourteen take-out orders had ham, company potatoes, green bean casserole, relish cups, deviled eggs, and pecan cobbler for lunch today. The monthly newsletter from Area II Council on Aging was distributed as well as the Senior News.

There were thirteen bingo players on Sunday. Dues for seniors will need to be paid after the first of the year.

The winners of the Winnett Lions’ Christmas light decorations for the town were Justin and Lacy Torgerson, Cha and Carrie Hess, and Gary and Linda Gershmel. Business winners were the Northern Motel, The Breaks General Store, and Hoge’s Service and Repair. There were a couple of entries from the country for their decorations. Scott and Candy Kenner, as well as Curt and Bonnie Moore decorated their home and yards up. Congratulations to all of you Thank you all for entering the contest and taking the time to decorate up your homes and/or business. Our town was beautiful this Christmas season.

Dec 24 - No Seniors today. Merry Christmas Everyone!

Dec 31 - Twenty-two seniors and ten take-out orders enjoyed a New Year’s Eve lunch of Heavenly Casserole, cottage cheese, dinner rolls, mixed vegetables, and chocolate zucchini cake for dessert.

Dues are due next week. Senior papers are in. Be sure and pick one up. There will be a Covid Vaccine clinic in the month of January. The Vaccine clinic will be for anyone starting at 70 years. We don’t know for sure what the date will be. We do know that the Central Montana Health District will be here on a Thursday so it will on Senior Day. We will let you know of the date as soon as we find out.

Ginger ordered a new Christmas tree for seniors. It should be delivered today. Patti talked about starting to plan the kitchen in the community center. Exciting times ahead for our center and the community when the new Petroleum County Community Center is built and ready for use. Have a safe New Year’s Day and we’ll see you next week . FLATWILLOW and WINNETT NEWS

Flatwillow Homemakers met for their Christmas meeting and party at Luann’s home on December 8. Birthdays celebrated in December were Linda and Bonnie. Happy Birthday. A pot luck lunch was enjoyed by all.

Sandi called the meeting to order and Jean led the Pledge of Allegiance. The thought for the day was read by Luann called “A month before Christmas”. Roll call was answered with everyone’s thoughts on what is good this month. Lillian won the blind pig. There was discussion on where we will hold our January meeting. Babs said we could hold it at her home on January 12. There will be opportunity table. After lunch and the meeting, we had our Christmas gift exchange. It was a wonderful time of visiting with friends and enjoying the season. Members present were Jean Cook, Linda Gershmel, Sandi Gonzalez, Donna Lund, Raye Anne Lund, Bonnie Moore, Ginger Moore, Lillian Moore, Florence Wacker, and Babs Lea. Merry Christmas everyone!

Petroleum County has had to say goodbye to several of our friends and longtime community members. Our sympathy goes out to the families and friends of John Benson, Luann Woodford, Cal Nunn, and Shari Gardner. We will miss all of you. We also had to say goodbye to a friend and classmate. Asa Woodard, who lived in Garfield County, but came to school in Winnett for several years passed away in a tragic vehicle accident. He graduated from Harlowton High School in 2017 but had moved back to this area and was working on a ranch. A number of friends from the Winnett area and former classmates at Winnett School went to Harlowton for his funeral and to say goodbye. It has been a hard year with all the goodbyes.

Basketball season has started. Our WGR Rams basketball boys are playing tough and doing a good job. Our Lady Rams are a young team and are continuing to improve. We are so proud of our teams. They don’t give up and are a source of pride for both the Winnett and Grass Range Communities.

Ski trips, music events and field trips are being planned for this semester. Graduation is set for May 16. We hope that this virus gets under control and we can continue to have a fun filled semester and enjoy the second half of the school year. We have done well when we have had to switch to remote learning, but it is much more fun to be in class and be able to be with friends and classmates. Our kids have done super in adapting and adjusting.

We haven’t heard yet but are still hoping to have music festival in the spring. Our music department is working hard to prepare to perform at festival as well as the pre-festival concert. That concert will be March 7 at 7:00 in the gym. Hope to see you there.

The Winnett Booster Club is working hard to raise money and support our teams in whatever way we can. They are doing a calendar raffle for the month of February as a fundraiser. One ticket will cost $20 and only 200 tickets will be sold. One person can purchase multiple tickets. Tickets will be sold throughout January with the last date to purchase tickets being January 29 unless sold out earlier. Tickets will be drawn Monday-Friday. Winning tickets will be added back into the drawing so each ticket could have multiple chances of winning. As of right now, we are still under restrictions for attendance at all of the games in our district. The number of fans will be determined by our health district. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.

I had my knee replaced the week before Christmas and it definitely was a very painful experience. I am continuing to improve and walk better. I am looking forward to when I can be out walking and working and not having any pain. It may be very painful for a short time, but in the long term, it will be well worth it.

I hope everyone had a nice Holiday season and enjoyed the break. School is now back in session and progressing forward. Let us hope that 2021 is a fun, healthy, and happy year for everyone. See you next time.
