Senior Spotlight

I posed a question to Amy Jones at Roundup High to forward onto the graduating seniors. Below are their responses from those that chose to respond. The Publisher

How has the current pandemic affected your senior year expectations and has it changed your plans for the future?

It ruined all my senior expectations. The senior trip was supposed to be fun! Full of rollercoasters! But now it's just golfing and maybe watching the idiots beat each other with golf clubs. Senior prank day was going to be so much fun! I was gonna be in charge so we all know it was gonna be great. And corona ruined all my fun-filled expectations. Jenine Viviano

Well this isn’t how I thought my senior would’ve gone, but this whole pandemic hasn’t been that bad. I was really looking forward for track season and my senior prom. I’m really glad that we still get a graduation ceremony. The distant learning hasn’t been to terribly hard. I honestly think I like it a little more since I’m able to sleep in and not have to worry about being late for school.Dylan Sanner

The current pandemic has affected my senior year immensely. I wasn’t expecting to finish my senior year all online. It’s super crazy to think that my last day happened so fast. I wish that I wouldn’t have taken it all for granted. So far the pandemic has not changed my plans for the future. Emily Weigum

No not really, in a way with the social distancing stuff its been great cause while I’ve been getting my stuff done its made it to where I can do it whenever and all. Plus its giving me time to write my music and characters and such. Plus just being able to be gone from school to relax and such has just been really nice. And nice to be away from everyone. Cameron Wilson

I don’t think this has changed my year much considering we are still learning online. However, this pandemic has taken away memories and time with our classmates and friends that we will never get back. I can handle not knowing what our graduation ceremony will be like or the fact that it will be different from the usual, but I can’t handle not being able to see the many family members I would have if this virus hadn’t of got in the way. And this hasn’t changed my plans for the future. Chloe Cota

The current pandemic has affected my senior in a lot of ways. We missed our prom, our class trip, and our graduation is a little messed up. I am beyond happy that we are getting some form of graduation but I’m a little upset it’s not like the traditional ceremony. My plans for the future have not changed due to this pandemic. Everything is still set in stone for the future.

I feel like it has kind of made my year harder, I hate online school with a passion, I don’t wanna do these online classes. I don’t mind the packets, but the online classes feels like it’s pushing it for the last of my school year. I really have no idea what I want to do after I leave, but it may affect what job I would want. Mason Anderson

If I would have known that the last day we were in school would have been our last day, I would have done so many different things, give hugs to the people I know I wouldnt see such as friends, teachers, and staff that I was close to. It kind of hit home, I didnt get to have a last prom, even though I was just going to take photos for yearbook, I didnt get to make the memories I could of had, I realised that I miss being in class with people I enjoyed being around, I miss goofing off when we should have been paying attention. All the little things I didn’t know I'd miss as much as I do. Being able to tell the people I was close to about the crazy experiences I had over the weekend, all sorts of stuff. Who knew that that day would be our last day walking through the hallways of our school. Journey Burns

The pandemic has affected my senior year, by the obvious, that there may not have been a graduation, I don't get to see my friends that often because of social distancing, we don't get to see any of them and have a good time and get a few good laughs for the day. My expectations for this year was that it was going to be a great last year of high school, no one expected that we'd be stuck at home. I almost miss getting up early and getting ready to go to school, without that I feel lazy because I don't have anywhere to go so I just stay home all day long. This pandemic definitely has not changed any plans for my future, I still plan on going to college. There for a while I was worried that I wasn't going to be able to go because of the corona virus, but I'm glad that things are starting to open back up and that things are going back to normal.
