School Board Meeting was Held March 9th

March 18, 2020

On Monday the 9th, the school board meeting was well attended. The session covered many topics. My attendance was to cover the old Wells Fargo Building being donated to the community. I was surprised to see many students sitting quietly to represent to the board their hopes of getting the Wrestling program to become a school sport. Also presented were the upcoming Donkey Basketball and other school business such as stop arms for the busses and a new suburban for transporting the most remote students.

Theresa Doumitt presented to the school board that the Wells Fargo Building was generously being donated to the community and could possibly be used for the following needs. Education Center for the school district, hospital, and community; Hospital general meeting room space for free community education classes; A superintendent’s office; An alternative school for three to eight students from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. or an early childhood classroom; Childcare center; Space for adult education classes and a computer lab for online certifications, training, and secondary education; Space weekly for classes (GED, adult education, etc.); Unmanned visitor information space; Community meeting room space needed for school, hospital, area nonprofits, and businesses (for a small fee).

This wonderful donation could be a boost to our community in many ways. However, one wonders if it would also become another tax burden for the county. If the board determines a use that can generate enough revenue to become self-sustaining, this would be an even more significant benefit.
