The Columbus Cougars came to town on Friday to challenge the Panthers in a conference game. Both teams struggled to shoot the ball consistently in the first half. The Panthers had the better of it early as some of our shots fell. The Panthers did a great job of getting the ball inside and got some great looks from kick outs by Dylan and Colton but the three ball wasn’t falling in the first half. The defense did a great job of keeping the Cougars off balance. AJ, Michael, Kaide, and MaKale applied lots of pressure on their guards creating turnovers and missed shots. The Cougars have some good size and hurt us on the offensive boards but the Panthers led 19-13 at the half. In the second half the Cougars began to find their stroke and over took the Panthers for the lead. Ryder kept the Panthers in striking distance scoring a couple of buckets inside. The Cougars continued to shoot the ball well and built their lead to 14 but finally the Panthers began to make some shots. Tanner scored all 8 of his points in the fourth quarter. Dylan and Kaide chipped in with a couple of threes but some missed bunnies around the rim and untimely turnovers cost the Panthers the game. Columbus prevailed 58-52.

Scoring was as follows: Makale Kembel 2, Colton Kinn 2, Michael McHenry 5, Ryder Klein 6, Tanner Rae 8, Kaide Griffith 13, and Dylan Sanner 16.

Saturday the Panthers traveled to Malta to challenge the Mustangs in a non conference game. Malta got rolling early as they had six different players score in the first quarter. Surprisingly, the Mustangs didn’t come after the Panthers with their vaunted full court press. Once again the Panthers were cold early from the outside but Dylan kept us in the game with his post play on the offensive end. In the second quarter the Panthers did a better job of finding the Mustang shooters and making them drive. The Panther “D” created quite of few turnovers which allowed the Panthers to get back into the game. Michael, Kaide, and Makale really tied up their guards. Part way through the second quarter the Panthers gave the Mustangs a different look with Colton, Dylan, and Tanner across the baseline of the zone and it really slowed down the Mustang offensive momentum. Kaide, Michael, Tanner, and Dylan all scored in the quarter as the Panthers tied the game at the half. Neither team did much offensively in the third quarter but the Panther “D” got the better of the Mustangs as the defense held the Mustangs to only 3 points. The Panthers scored 9 in the quarter to grab the lead that they wouldn’t relinquish. The fourth quarter saw the Mustangs make a couple of runs but some timely made shots by Dylan and Kaide helped stem the tide. Tanner made some big free throws late to seal the deal as the Panthers won, 52-46.

Scoring was as follows: Colton Kinn 1, Ryder Klein 2, Makale Kembel 3, Michael McHenry 4, Kaide Griffith 7, Tanner Rae 8, and Dylan Sanner 27.
