WINNETT SENIOR NEWS

By Raye Anne Lund

Nov 7 - Thirty-four seniors and six take-out orders enjoyed a meal of roast beef, mashed potatoes with brown gravy, corn, relish tray, orange fluff salad, fresh rolls and pumpkin pie cake for dessert.

Today was our Veteran’s dinner and program. Gary was the emcee for the program. He read a poem given to him by Kim Tarplee. It was about Veterans who never came home. A very touching tribute. Veterans in our area who came to the dinner were Ralph Corbett, Chuck Allen, Jack Barisich, Rob Flatgard, Leo Tarplee, Butch Arthur, Bill Cassell, Monte Boettger, and J.J. Delaney. Everyone told about other family members who were or still are in the armed forces. Ginger read a poem about Veterans. Thank you to all who have served or are still serving.

Laura from Area II in Roundup will be here next week. The Honor Society students will also be here next week to play games with our seniors. We gained a new member, Bob Similo. Welcome to our fun group.

Nov 14 -Tuna noodle casserole, peas, squash, and dessert clean up was served for lunch today. There were twenty-seven members present, and four take-out meals.

Laura from Area II was here. She gave her presentation and noted that there will be help for Medicare questions. She also encouraged anyone who has not gotten their flu shot, to be sure and get one. She mentioned to review Medicare Part D. It is very important.

We welcome a couple of new members. Rosie Zimmerman and Bob Flansburg both joined seniors. Welcome aboard!

There will be no meals served on Thanksgiving Day which will be November 28, 2 weeks from today.

Senior papers are here for anyone to take. Be sure and pick one up. Patti gave a report on her husband Dwane’s checkup. He received a good report, and everything is all clear. No sign of cancer at all. Ralph gave a report on Melissa Bohn. She is doing therapy and improving every day. She hopes to be home in time for Christmas but not sure about that. Karen Tetreault is doing ok. She will begin chemo next week. Our thoughts are with all our friends and neighbors who are dealing with these health issues.

Poney Rich passed away. Linda reported the funeral will be in Jordan. Linda won the 50/50 and Ralph won senior of the month.

Nov 21 -Twenty-seven members and five take-out orders celebrated birthday Thursday today. Since there will be no meals served next Thursday because it is Thanksgiving Day, we celebrated a week early. We had oven fried chicken, mashed potatoes with milk gravy, fresh salad, cranberries, birthday cake and ice cream. November birthdays are Patti, Ginger, and Lillian. Thank you to Luann and the Flatwillow Homemakers for the candy and cookie Pilgrim hats at each place setting. Luann made the hats.

Linda won the 50/50 for $8. Gunda had heart valve surgery and is feeling much better. Melissa is continuing her rehab. The Holiday Bazaar is this Sunday, the 24th at the school gym. There are a lot of vendors planning on being there so stop in and check out what you might want to give to yourself or someone for a Christmas present. The Christmas Stroll is for December 6 beginning at 6:00. Santa will be arriving in town on top of the big city fire truck at 6:30. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be at The Breaks Store for pictures.

We had to say goodbye to a longtime former member of our community. Joe O’Meara went to high school and graduated from Winnett. He passed away in Lewiston. Our sympathy goes out to his family and friends. Tom and Diane Iverson are back today. Jack and Shirley Hughes left earlier this month for Arizona for the winter. Sharon Tate has also headed south to Florida for the winter months.

Remember, no seniors next week. Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!
