Hawk Creek VFD……Setting the record straight

Bruce Hoiland along with others, have been making statements that the new Hawk Creek VFD fire building is one of the causes for the Musselshell County Property Taxes to increase. As chief of the Hawk Creek VFD, I am here to state with facts that except for $2,320, all labor, materials and equipment have been funded by the Hawk Creek VFD. The $2,320 was provided by Musselshell County which was offered by Bob Goffnea (Chair) and approved by all 3 commissioners back in 2018. These monies were used to rent two scissor lifts for safety reasons in the dismantling effort of the building.

Through years of donations, large amounts of donated equipment and many hours of labor provided by our volunteer firefighters and the Amish community, we were able to dismantle the building located in the flood plains and move it to its’ new location behind our fire hall in Musselshell. Our fire department was also able to give Musselshell County $109,002 in match dollars for the FEMA Floodplain Buyout Program. This match represents the value of our volunteer labor, donated equipment and supplies paid for by the Hawk Creek VFD.

So, Bruce, the next time you want to attack the Hawk Creek Fire Department, which is made up of 29 of the most dedicated fire fighters sacrificing their personal time and safety for the protection of our community, try and get some facts first, or you could just call me and ask.

Brad Pfeiffer

Chief, Hawk Creek VFD
