June 6 - Our menu today was baked ham, company potatoes, watermelon, 7 layer salad, and rhubarb dessert. There were twenty-two present and two take-out orders today.

Thank you to Bonnie Manuel for the lettuce and thank you to Gary and Linda Gershmel for the rhubarb. There is also some here they are donating to anyone who would like to take some home.

Laura from Area II in Roundup was here today. She brought information to seniors and let everyone know that scams are still being emphasized. There are a lot of scammers out there and they seem to target our senior citizens. She high-lighted articles in the monthly newsletter that are important pieces of information. MT telecommunications is available to help out any senior who is hard of hearing. They need to call because they could qualify for a special phone to help out. Gary is on the Advisory Board of Area II and he said he would continue to serve on the board.


Marilyn Eike, Jean Cook’s sister, was her to pick up Jean and visit. She didn’t eat with us, but she did visit with everyone.

The foot clinic is tomorrow, June 7. They will be here beginning at 9am. Kim Tarplee won senior of the month. Congratulations! Gary talked about D-Day. There was very good input from our members. A lot of them remember that day. Linda mentioned the National Law Enforcement Web Site. Our sheriff Bill Cassell and deputy sheriff Dusty Anderson were featured in the article. The article was printed in the Lewistown Newspaper.

June 13 - Eighteen members and two take-out orders enjoyed our lunch of tater tot casserole coleslaw, celery sticks, and apple crisp. The new senior papers are here. Be sure and pick one up.

The Area II meeting in Roundup will be June 21. Gary, Linda, Donna, Jean, Dellie, and Mert all plan on attending.

The 50/50 for $6.00 was won by Mary Meserve. Cassie is putting on a fun run for Type 1 Diabetes Awareness on August 10. You can sign up for a 3 mile or a 5 mile run. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is where the money will go to continue research and treatments for juvenile diabetes.

June 20 - We had a full house today for lunch. Thirty members showed up for lunch and the meeting. We had Polish dogs, mashed potatoes, carrots and cabbage, fresh fruit and cream puffs.

There will be no senior meeting on Thursday, July 4. Our first meeting in July will be the 11th. Jack Hughes won the 50/50 for $10. Gary told a story about a hitch hiking “nun”. Sounds very interesting. There was also some discussion on estate planning. Linda informed the group about the Jordan reunion, pointing out differences from other years’ reunions, and also differences between the Jordan and Winnett reunions. It is so fun to see the reunions from these small towns. No matter where anyone ends up, there is a closeness with friends, family, classmates in these small towns that lasts through the years.

June 27 - Today is our birthday meal of oven fried chicken, mashed potatoes with milk gravy, lettuce salad, cranberries, birthday cake and ice cream for dessert. There were twenty-six members who ate at the senior citizen and four take-out orders. Jess Hoge, Sylvia St. Pierre, Mary Meserve, Shirley Hughes, and Burt Bevis all celebrated birthdays in June. Thank you to Carol Ann for baking the birthday cakes. It was great to see Joan Murphy and Pat Weingart who were able to be with us today.

Petroleum County Senior Citizens won several prizes in Billings at the Billings Clinic Bingo games. Donna reported on the Area II meeting held in Roundup. Mert won the 50/50 for $8.00.

Jim Johnke mentioned that the Grand Marshals of the Winnett All School Reunion parade will be graduates of Winnett High School in the 1940’s. Doris Morton had back surgery and is doing well. The pain in her back is gone and she feels so much better. Lester Sluggett had a horse accident and spent some time in St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings. He is getting better, but he had some serious injuries. Bob Flansburg was in the hospital for a couple of days. Judy Bevis is having several tests done for her heart. We are thinking of our friends, family, community family members and hope all of them are back to 100% healthy soon.

Cards are played and enjoyed after every meeting. Everyone helps with dishes and clean-up and then enjoy an afternoon of cards.

June has flown by, hard to believe that next week is July 4th. Remember, no seniors next Thursday, the 4th. Happy Independence Day Everyone!!
