  • Drive Thru Closed!

    Lura Pitman|Jan 1, 2025

The Hardware Store was not vandalized, but an unfortunate brake failure by a customer took out the side street window. The Adam’s family temporarily repaired the opening for the store, adding a humorous quip, giving customers a new idea of a service that they might love- a drive through hardware. The hardware ladies assure that it is not, nor ever will be, a drive through....

A late December afternoon is a great day for a walk along the Roundup River Walk. The warm weather means the Musselshell River isn't iced over completely - yet. Another new store - FabricMann - and another reason to shop local. Located at 25 First Ave, next to Big M Realty....

  • Local Hero - Will the Mailman

    Jan 1, 2025

Over the Holiday season, no one works harder than the staff at the Post Office. Last year we designated Will a Local hero. Faithfully getting every last piece of mail out each day on his route. He is not the only mail box hero, each person at the Post Office labours through the holidays, and with the increase in Amazon packages, and online shopping, the labor has increased without the ability to have an increase in workers. The days of the Mail Man are very long, and they don’t stop till they a...

  • Angies Angle

When a near-nonagenarian watches friends “hospiced to death,” as she characterizes the starvation-desiccation regimen practiced at her assisted-living facility, she determines to defend herself and the other residents from the same end. The plan? To murder the venal owner/manager, who lives on the premises, for which crime Mamie enlists a 90-year-old colleague as her accomplice. How, though, can a pair of geriatric, wheelchair-confined antiquarians harm anyone? Realizing the necessity of additional brain and muscle power, they deceive thr...

    Raye Anne Lund|Jan 1, 2025

Flatwillow Homemakers had a field trip on December 4 to Billings. We car pooled to and ate a delicious lunch at Lisa’s Sandwich Shop on 1st Ave No. What a great place to eat if you like sandwiches, soup and salads. Then we toured the Moss Mansion, all decked out for Christmas. There were beautifully decorated Christmas trees in every room. We took a self-guided tour so we could take our time and enjoy every part of the mansion. Raye Anne Lund, Luann Knutson, Linda Gershmel, Lani Gershmel, Chuck Allen (he was James, our chauffeur) Mary M...

  • Skip those ordinary and boring New Year's resolutions.

    Jan 1, 2025

Try these this for 2025: 1. Be the champion mashed potato sculptor of the family. Think epic volcanoes - landscapes. Extra points when you use butter as your glue. 2. Play competitive Karaoke - with a blindfold. No peeking at the lyrics. 3. Learn the hidden art of communication with squirrels. Even more challenging in Roundup, since we have a small squirrel population. Be the first to crack this nut! 4. Write a Haiku about Roundup. Not sure what that is? A poem of 3 lines, 17 syllables. Then share it with the paper in a letter to the editor....

    Jan 1, 2025

The City of Roundup and the Tree Board have been awarded a two-year $25,000 grant by DNRC Department of Urban Forestry effective July 2, 2024. The grant requires a $1 to $3 match consisting of cash and in-kind donations. (For every $3 available through the grant $1 of cash or services must be provided by the City.) If all goes according to the plan set forth in the grant application, 5 older trees would be removed, 20 new trees would be planted, roots will be lifted...

  • THE TENDER CARE MURDERS

    Jan 1, 2025

Chapter 1 Chloe Renczi sat, if her posture could be called that, in her usual attitude, on the side of her bed and inclined back about forty-five degrees from vertical. Mamie Deshayes, in fact all of the others that considered such things, marveled at her stability, especially at 92, for it appeared that as little as a breath would cause her to topple backward. Nevertheless, her body had conformed itself to that habit and, when not wheeled out and constrained to watch television, at least doze in its color and noise, could sustain it for hours....

  • A Youth's Perspective: A Short Story - Drug Abuse

    Jan 1, 2025

By: Sophie Kellum (a high school student) In Roundup Montana, community can mean a lot of things. While many parts of this small town atmosphere are mostly positive, there are other aspects that aren’t so positive. One of those aspects is rampant drug abuse. The youth in roundup is especially harmed- as stress from school, home, or just life in general makes kids susceptible to finding alternative ways to cope. Drugs are a major continuing subject that keeps popping up around the town. So- why? Why are kids, instead of finding a therapist, o...
